Summary:
Choices- Four friends; Lena, who is engaged to a basketball superstar, Denise, who is hoping that she will be the first in her family to graduate college, Freedom, who lives up to her name and Carmen, who needs to work on her self-esteem--lean on each other during their days at Freedom University.
Consequences- School's back in session and there's a lot of unfinished business to handle. As Lena prepares for her wedding day, she can't help but think about Denise, her sexy b-ball roommate who almost stole her away. A summer isn't enough time to get over a true love. Denise just can't shake the feelings she developed for soon-to-be-married Lena. Should she go for what she wants or leave well enough alone? Cooley let Misha walk away, but she can't take no for an answer. Will her determination to win back her first love bring Misha back or push her further away? Carmen worked hard to get her life back on track...but will fears of the past wreck her future with new love Nic? This fast-paced sequel to Choices will leave you on an emotional roller coaster you won't want to get off.
Crossroads- Skyy takes readers on another wild ride with former college friends Denise, Lena, and Cooley. These women still have the heart and the drama, but now they’re all grown up. Denise, the sexy star basketball player, has recovered from the injuries she suffered during the incident with crazy stalker girl Rhonda. She is off to New York to follow her basketball dreams, with her true love Lena not far behind, only to hit a bump in the road. Lena is off to New York to get hers. You have to admire that in a woman—maybe. Life with a female basketball star can bring its own set of complications, especially if you haven’t been able to make up your mind. Cooley is finally far away from Memphis and all its heartache. There is nothing to remind her of her past—except for the huge scar across her face. Have all of her past transgressions finally robbed her of her swagger? Can she handle the women, or even the job for that matter, without being the Cooley we all once knew and loved? Denise, Lena, and Cooley have come to the Crossroads. Where will they lead?
Full Circle- It’s the final test for our favorite Freedom University alumni. It’s been two years since Lena decided to take time away from all her drama to find herself and focus on her child. But the present finds her staring at images of Denise, the one who got away. Will she finally be able to move on to someone new, or will she go after the one she’s wanted all along? Denise has learned that there is more to Hollywood than fame and fortune. The dark side of celebrity rears its ugly head as Denise’s star grows brighter and Farih’s starts to dim. With the past reappearing in her life, Denise finds herself torn between the stable relationship she’s always wanted and the chaotic love that her heart just doesn’t want to let go.
Never in a million years did Cooley think she would be in a committed relationship—and happy. Managing two of the hottest up-and-coming lesbian stars in the world, she finds her life is right on track. But when a secret comes out, it could derail all she’s worked for and threaten her relationship.
Misha pictured her future as an independent jet-setter, not as a housewife. As she watches her ex live the life she envisioned for herself, the temptation to pursue her dreams and revisit the life she abandoned might just get the best of her.
While her friends live fabulously in Atlanta, Carmen is stuck in Memphis, in a teaching job she despises. While Nic is perfectly happy with the average life they have created together, Carmen wants more, including the perfect “royal wedding.” Her caviar wishes might end up destroying her relationship dreams.
The future might be bright and sunny for the crew, but there are still storm clouds ahead. Their relationships and friendships have never been so vigorously tested. As Carmen and Nic’s wedding approaches, will skeletons in their closets wreck the worlds they have created, or will everything finally come full circle?
Review:
"You know she goin, right?"
One of the many popular phrases from this down-to-earth, fun-loving crew: Cooley, Lena, Carmen, and Denise are four friends going through the gay life and life in general. Cooley is your playgirl that will sleep with anything in a skirt. Lena, the straight girl that learns she just might belong on the other side, but refuses to accept herself. Carmen is soft-spoken, sweet, and gullible, but she’s the glue that holds it all together. And finally, Denise, the campus hottie (stud) and star basketball player with a heart of goal and no luck in the love department.
This is a series that will truly take you on a journey. The moment you open the pages you, yourself are on the campus of Freedom University. You stand beside Cooley and Denise when they first lay eyes on Lena, stepping out of her luxury car. You are at the door as Lena falls and Denise catches her. You will feel the disgust of Cooley’s promiscuity. You will feel both pity and anger at Carmen’s desperation for her girlfriend. You will see a bit of yourself and the people around you in each and every one of these characters. I could not stop reading, would not stop reading, because I had to know what would happen next. Would Denise and Lena ever hook up? Would Cooley change? Would Carmen find something better? Their choices would lead to their Consequences.
In Consequences, we get our wish and finally the tension that had grown so thick between Lena and Denise will be exhausted for only a moment. Lena is confused and the tug-of-war that she plays with Denise’s emotions is frustrating. Consequences bring out the physical reactions in you: laughing, crying, gasping, and sighing. Cooley even has us feeling a little sorry for her as she fights for the love she has never known. We applaud Carmen in this part of the series as she moves on with her life, but we want to shake her as she still has dealings with the ex that was so terrible to her. The emotional roller coaster that was promised is most certainly on time as we move on over to Crossroads.
Freedom University is now outdated, and the group is moving on with their lives. Carmen and Nic are making it work; Denise is off to New York, and Lena just might have come to her senses. Of course, now that they have entered the real world, nothing will go according to plan. We are still left hoping for Lena and Denise. Cooley is stealing our hearts, and Carmen seems pointless now. Denise finds a new love in Farih, a beautiful model, and Cooley is all wrapped up in the breath-taking Sahara—the one woman who can deal with her. Skyy still leaves us hanging in the end, giving us an almost steamy bathroom scene between Denise and Lena. Only for them to decide it’s not right and go back to the party. Lena leaves with her new, annoying girlfriend Terrin. Boy was I happy to see her go! Then there is Cooley, who does something so out of character, I almost want to marry her myself. It doesn’t stop there, it just can’t. We need to know if Lena will find herself, if Cooley and Sahara will stick it out. Will Denise see that Farih is wrong for her? Will Carmen and Nik just fade to black? So many questions…
In Full Circle, we get exactly what we ask for, every question we had is answered. Any concern we had is addressed. The crew is back together and the drama begins and ends. Skyy’s writing is perfection and we witness the growth in every line, every scene. The editing is amazing, the grammar, the plot, the flow… we can ask for nothing more from Ms. Skyy. By now, the characters are real life people and we are attached. I didn’t want to see them go. I believe, I even shed a tear a two for the successful conclusion that I hoped for. It was a series well deserving of five stars. I’m hoping that Skyy will take a few of the new characters that she introduced in the later books and give them their own story.
Every lesbian should read this series.
